The Frugal Hill Fitness Programme

Hello Friends,

As you know, since it snowed heavily at the end of 2010, I’ve been walking to work and catching the train home rather than using the car.

A couple of weeks ago train fares in the UK increased by an average of 5.9% this month.  My train fare went up from 60p to £1.  As a result, I decided to give walking home a try.

Like everyone else, I feel tired at the end of the working day, and I wasn’t confident initially that I would be able to manage walking home.  The first couple of days were horrible, but  I’ve kept going for the last couple of weeks.  Something funny has happened – not only am I saving money, but I feel fitter.  I’m walking faster, I feel more awake in the evenings when I get home and I feel my lung capacity has got greater from walking up Frugal Hill.  It’s definitely cheaper than the gym!

How do you keep fit in a frugal way?

Until next time, Tawney

  1. I start to ride to work and back when I go back in 2 weeks.

It’s going to be hard to juggle it time wise, take showers on both ends as it’s so humid hot here and be organised with all my gear. And it’s going to be hard because I’m so unfit.

Next week I’m doing some practice runs to see how hard and how long it takes to do it all.

It will be great to feel fitter and shed the 20 kilos I have put on in 3 years working at a desk in an office.
