End of the month round up

Hello Friends,

It’s the end of the month, so I’ve been totting up our spending.  Our food spending was down by £25, but we spent a few days away, so I haven’t really saved anything on food.

I am aware that we are still buying expensive snack foods and that although I go to the supermarket with a list, I overbuy food and and, probably like many others, get sucked into buying things I don’t need.  I only did one big supermarket shop, but ended up topping up several times a week.  I think that has added to our costs.

We’ve had the old unexpected items crop up again – they shouldn’t be unexpected, but I don’t plan ahead very well.  So much goes on in my life, there often isn’t space in my head to think further ahead than the end of the day.  I think I’m going to keep an amount in the budget for unexpected items.  This time it’s been school trips again.

This weekend I’ve got a couple of extra days off so I’m going to try and plan ahead for the whole month.

What catches you out with your spending?  How have you overcome this?

Until next time, Tawney x

  1. I put a set amount each month into a savings account (I bank with a telephone bank) and so if my cheque account looks dodgy I just ring up and can immediately top it up. It often means that I don’t have anything in this little savings account when the pension comes in (bah George Osborne!!!!!) but at least its there for a crisis.

Incidentally – Tawney – I have repaired one pair of adult male jeans – so your blog has energised me!! Thanks.xxxx
