Yesterday my brother and sister-in-law took me to the local Costco. I’d heard about it, but not been there before and was initially a bit sceptical.
My prejudices were blown away however – the prices are unbelievably low. You have to buy in bulk, but the sizes of packets are not so large that you need a warehouse to store them in. I went round using the calculator on my phone, and realised that I could probably save at least 20% on my supermarket staples such as washing powder, dishwasher tablets, pasta and loo rolls.
There are certain rules about who can join – luckily I qualify due to my job, and there is a yearly membership fee. I can see that even after I’ve paid for this and my fuel, I will still be saving money. I think I will go every couple of months and stock up. I have a place for storage in mind in the house and I need to sort that out first. I will let you know how I get on with my first proper shop in a month or two.
Have you tried Costco or similar? How have you got on with it?
Until next time, Tawney x
