Hello Friends,
I am still working on clearing the clutter and making my home into a cosy place. I know that I have to build new habits and routines, but I don’t like rules or being committed to anything. The minute I feel pinned down by rules, a regime or any kind of authority, that’s it, I want my freedom.
I believe that you have to do what works for you. I gave the Fly Lady routines a go some time ago. This involves dividing your house into 5 areas and spending one week a month in each area. On top of this you do daily routines such as cleaning the loo, washing etc. This didn’t work for me – it was just too much and by the time I got to the last week of the month, everything I tidied up and cleaned in the first week had gone to pot.
I think the basic idea of regularly attacking each area of the house is a good one. I’ve stripped down the Fly Lady routines, and I’m adapting them to suit me. I don’t want to spend all weekend cleaning, so I accept that I’ve got to do a little bit each day. I’ve divided my house into 6 areas: upstairs bathroom, hall and playroom, downstairs bathroom, bedrooms and landing, lounge and stairs and the kitchen. This week I’ve started de-cluttering and cleaning for a short time after work in each area in the hope that I can get on top of things. I’ll let you know how I get on.
Do you have cleaning routines? What works for you?
Until next time, Tawney x
