I thought I had put this post up yesterday, but clearly I got distracted. Edie flies to Canada on Friday, and we’ve been busy trying to sort things out – we’ve only had 12 days between Russia and the next leg of the year abroad with Christmas in between so it’s been a bit full on.
A quick scan through the blogs I usually read has shown up a recurrent theme this evening, that of New Year’s Resolutions.
Lots of people are talking about spending less, budgeting, paying down debts and mortgages etc. While I was reading, something struck me: as we enter 2013 I now have only 16 months left on the mortgage. It suddenly seems real – we will be paying it off 5 years early simply by having overpaid a little bit every month. As interest rates went down, we kept paying the same amount.
We still face challenges in the next few months. We have found it hard having Edie at uni – it has stretched us financially far more than we ever expected, and we will face around 8 tight months from September when Bee goes to uni before the mortgage is finished.
So what are my resolutions for 2013?
- Look after myself and make sure I don’t get run down
- Monitor my spending regularly
- Save something every month
- De-clutter my home once and for all – learn new habits to keep it clutter free & calm.
Have you made any new year’s resolutions? Do you always stick to them?
Until next time, Tawney x
